Horse Treks for Beginners
We have a few options for beginners.
Mini-trek - This trek is great for birthday and family groups. Follow our guide as they take you down into the native bush and farmland, then come home back through the river. Taken at a steady walk this trek is best suited to younger children, families or the beginner rider. This trek lasts approximately 25 minutes. Adults $35, Kids (13 and under) $25.
1 Hour "Outback" trek - this trek takes you through farmland and native bush. As you wind your way down to the trout stream, listen out for the Tui bird's distinctive call. Taken at a walking pace, perfect for slightly older children and family groups. Adults $60, Kids (13 and under) $45
1 1/2 Hour "Pioneers Lookout" Trek - Ride through our farmland and into the heart of the New Zealand native bush. Follow our guide as they take you along Hind's Gully and up onto Sow's Ridge. Once at the top have your camera at the ready for spectacular panoramic views of our farm and the Eastern Bay of Plenty. This trek is suitable for the more adventurous beginner rider and will be taken at a faster pace than a walk. Adults $75, Kids (13 and under) $55.
1 1/2 Hour Picnic Trek - Ride through our farmland and into the native bush. This ride takes you up Wattyl Hill, onto on of the highest points of the farm. There enjoy a picnic in amongst the bush and pines, with beautiful views across the farm. Then re-mount, head down the Saddle Track and wind your way back home through the river. This ride is suitable for the more adventurous beginner and will be taken at a faster pace than a walk. Adults $90, Kids (13 and under) $70.
Weight limit for these treks is 120kg
For those that are more experienced riders these treks are for you. They will all include trotting and cantering and will require you to be able to control your own horse in an open space.
2 Hour "Pine Forest Endeavour" Trek - Make your way through our farm land and onto the Big Flats, where you can ejoy a canter in the shadow of the vast pine forest. Your ride takes you up into the ancient pines and onto the Dry River Bed Gully. Canter up to the top of Sow's Ridge for panoramic views of our farm and the Eastern Bay of Plenty. Then enjoy a relaxing ride home through our crystal clear trout stream. $95, Kids (13 and under) $65.
4 Hour "Ultimate Explorer's" Trek - A "must-do" for the more experienced rider. The sky's the limit with this trek! Join our guide in exploring some of our 3'500 acres. Ride deep into native New Zealand bush and across parts of the station mainly seen by wildlife. After approximately 2 hours our guide will find the perfect spot to savour a hot drink, biscuit and a chat. Then it's back on your horse to enjoy more beautiful New Zealand countryside. This trek includes a hot drink and snack. Lunch can be provided for $15 extra per person or just BYO. Adults $180, Kids (13 and under) $140.
Cattle Muster - Ever fancied yourself as an outback wrangler?! Make you dreams a reality New Zealand style! We are a working farm here at Tui Glen and you can become part of the action. Join our experienced farm hands for a horseback ride you'll never forget. Help move "mobs" of cattle throughout our 3'500 acres, as well as enjoying the sights and sounds of the New Zealand outback. Half way through stop for a hot drink, snack and a yarn, before mounting up again to explore more of our station. The ride finishes with a relaxing ride home through our native trout stream. Hot drink and snack included. Lunch can be provided for $15 extra per person or just BYO.
Weight Limit for the experienced rides is 100Kg. Approximate 4 hour ride. Adults $200 Kids (13 and under) $170.
For the little ones 1 to 10 years of age this option is great. You lead your child on a course around our arenas.
